Description

In Dinard, on the Brittany coast, the city is investing in a brand-new facility for its municipal horticultural department. Located near the local wastewater treatment plant, the new greenhouse complex will provide a modern space for growing plants and flowers.

The project will replace the city’s existing greenhouses, allowing the horticultural team to once again grow plants in-house. With an annual production capacity of up to 30,000 plants, the focus will be on perennials and creating greener, more sustainable public spaces.

  • Smart use of water and energy

    Thanks to the location of the greenhouse complex, available residual resources can be used directly for horticultural production, helping to reduce the project’s environmental footprint.

    • Treated wastewater from the nearby wastewater treatment plant is used to irrigate the plants.
    • Residual heat and thermal energy from the wastewater are recovered and used to heat the greenhouses.

By recovering available energy locally, the use of conventional energy sources can be reduced.

  • Greenhouse complex with multiple climate zones

    The complex consists of six widespan greenhouses, each designed with different climate zones. These include areas for warm, temperate and cool cultivation.

    The greenhouses combine 4 mm tempered glass with 16 mm polycarbonate, with a structure designed to maximise natural light and support efficient climate control.

    A central technical area forms the heart of the installation.

  • Modern technologies

    An important part of our role is the integration of the various technical systems, including

    • the electrical installation;
    • horizontal and vertical energy screens;
    • lighting;
    • climate control;
    • heating systems;
    • irrigation and misting systems.

The different climate zones are centrally controlled using an OPTAGROW climate and fertigation control system. This allows temperature, humidity, irrigation and fertilisation to be precisely adjusted to the needs of the plants.

The recovery of heat from the nearby wastewater treatment plant is an important added benefit, further enhancing the sustainability of the project.
