The new botanical greenhouse "Green Ark" in Meise consists of several departments each accommodating rich plant collections from specific climate zones. In these, plant species are grouped according to their ecological requirements. Since there are usually only three plants of each plant species, the Botanical Garden focuses on flexible, manual plant care as well as flexible operation and arrangement of the greenhouses and space for growing new plants. Besides the greenhouses for the perennial plant collections, the greenhouse complex also includes a number of greenhouses for the propagation of plants for research projects, as well as various technical and storage rooms.
The new greenhouse is of the Venlo type and amounts to 8000 m².
A climate computer measures and controls the 18 different cultivation, orangery and research departments in terms of temperature, humidity and light levels, leaf temperature, energy radiation, etc. The primary installations installed for this purpose:
The greenhouse has been equipped with various types of ventilation systems, wall and roof coverings and insect netting.
