As part of a large renovation project, we are building a sustainable research greenhouse for the University of Nantes, designed by the architectures AIA Life Designers Nantes. Located on the roof of the campus, this greenhouse will not only enhance the university's functional capacity but also contribute to the energy efficiency and architectural value of the campus.
Smart design for maximum energy efficiency
This 6.20-meter wide and 12.80-meter long widespan greenhouse is designed with a single-pitched roof with a 21° slope, optimized for maximum natural light penetration and heat retention. By orienting the roof to the south, a stable, energy-efficient environment is created, ideal for biological research.
Construction quality and durability
The greenhouse structure is built to the highest standards. For the metal structures, we use galvanized steel of types S235/S275/S355, and the steel profiles are thermally galvanized after production, providing extra protection against corrosion, with zinc layers ranging from 55µ to 100µ, depending on the steel thickness.
Advanced techniques
The research greenhouse is equipped with roller screens and insect screens. The roller screens help regulate temperature and light levels, which are essential for precise research results. The insect screens serve as an additional protection against pests.
Sustainable material use and insulation
The gutter construction has been optimized with an insulated solution, equipped with PIR insulation and EPDM strips to minimize thermal bridges. The roof and side windows are made with 24 mm insulated safety glass, further reducing energy needs.
Contribution to biological research and collaboration
The greenhouse plays a crucial role in the university's facilities. This space provides a comfortable environment for innovative research and fosters collaboration between laboratories, enabling new breakthroughs in research.
